Why the hiatus?

On the Blogs, Personal No Comments »

A quick appology for the hiatus from writing. Baby number 2 arrived in July and live prior to and since has been pretty hectic, including moving house with a 6 week old baby (I do not recommend this).

If you still have the feed running, I’m glad that you have stuck around!

Look forward to reviews, thoughts and actions, and your interaction

Cheers,

Darren

UPDATE: Rodney Olsen in Dominican Republic

Church life, On the Blogs No Comments »

Rodney was able to update his blog so I thought that I would cross-post so that you can continue to pray informed.

We’ve had an amazing time today here in the Dominican Republic. We visited two Compasssion projects and visted a couple of homes of sponsored children.

I have some amazing stories to tell but I am so tired night now that those stories will have to wait. I may not even get another chance to blog until I make it home on Tuesday afternoon but I’ll see what I can do. If I wake up early enough tomorrow I might tell you some of the exciting stories we encounteres today.

In the mean time you might like to hear a little bit more about our departure from Haiti. I spoke to Tim Long at Sonshine FM yesterday morning. You can hear our chat by clicking play on the audio player at the bottom of this post.

By the way, I haven’t had the change to reply to those who have left comments over the past couple of days. I’ll thank you personally when I can but uintil then, thanks for your kind words and wishes

Twitter

Church life, On the Blogs, Web 2 Comments »

The blogosphere is all abuzz with Twitter. It has been around for a little bit, but just seems to have exploded around the time of SxSW conference. Robert Scoble has been totally immersed for a while and guys like Leo Laporte from TWIT are all a Twitter!

If you havn’t seen Twitter, then it is a bit of a mashup between SMS and blogging, but that doesn’t do it justice at all…(Scoble was right when he was on TWIT this week when he said it was very hard to describe!) all I can say is go and have a look for yourself, sign up and have a go!

But as always the question must be asked: Is this a useful technology for ministry? I think it can be in the right circumstance, but I am interested in your view, so comment away!

Of further interest is the products that are developing out of twitter. www.twittervision.com  which lays over posts on a Google Map, strangely enough it is quite addictive to look at. Scoble even said he was thinking of hooking up a third monitor just so he could have it running all the time!

With our focus on the local church, however this would be very cool way of people being in community with each other, the Pastor letting people know exactly how busy they really are and generally connecting with others in this connected world we live in.

For some unknown reason the photos broke the WordPress theme and it all went hay wire!
They will return a little later as I work out how best to fix the problem

So there you have it!The Blogging Church is here, now for the reading and reviews…stay tuned!

Recently I wrote about how I thought second life or its replaements will be around for a while and have a significant impact on church life.
The team at LifeChurch.tv have build a campus in Second Life and invite you to go visit. It includes lots of nice features including:

On-demand video
- Free LifeChurch.tv T-shirts
- The environment and theming of our LifeKids area and the building in general
- The Mysecret.tv glass house

Are you into Second Life? Head on over to the new church and let us know what you think!

My search for “The Blogging Church” at a local retailer has proved futile so I have turned to Amazon.com to fulfil my need to read this book that so many have been raving about.
I ordered it this morning, and Amazon says it will be delivered about the 10th March…Oh to wait so long!
Once it is here I will read and share from an Aussie viewpoint.

Brian Bailey from LeaveItBehind.com has just released a book titled The Blogging Church. He wrote it in conjunction with Terry Storch and it is now available at Amazon. A quick check of the major Australian Christian booksellers didn’t turn up anything, so hopefully it will be available locally soon.
